We are working for fossil freedom. To get there, we need nuclear heroes. One of them is Sofia Leino, a former participant in the Nordic Nuclear Trainee Program.
Sofia works at Fortum as a Design Engineer. She specializes in systems engineering and automation licensing. Her attraction to nuclear technology stems from its complexity. She enjoys the varied tasks that come with working in this field. From exploring different technologies to navigating diverse disciplines, every day brings something new.
She participated in the second program, which ended in December 2023. Sofia decided to join the program because she was in a good place in her studies at the time – only her master’s thesis left and a lot of interest in the nuclear industry in the Nordics.
A highlight of the actual program was a visit to the Olkiluoto 3 reactor hall. Seeing the new nuclear power unit was a big thing for the entire group.
– “The best thing for me was getting to know the whole group and becoming close friends with the other trainees from other companies. We actually formed a tight friend group of about 15 people. After the program officially ended, we had a cabin weekend with all of the trainees together,” Sofia says.
The next program starts in September.
